In October and November 2023, as part of the "Corporate Banking" subject, we had the opportunity to host practitioners from ING Bank at the Faculty of Economics.
The classes were held as part of the international economic relations program, specializing in international finance and banking.
The corporate banking course is conducted as part of many years of cooperation between the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdańsk and ING Bank Śląski.
Classes prepared by ING Bank practitioners for WE UG students covered important areas in terms of knowledge of the market, business, banking sector and personal development.
Students of the 3rd year of first-cycle studies specializing in international finance and banking and the 2nd year of second-cycle studies specializing in international finance and banking had the opportunity to become familiar with many aspects of the functioning of the bank and the details of financial instruments as part of the "joint studies" formula and direct cooperation with banking practitioners, including methods of obtaining financing that are useful for every company, such as factoring, leasing and letters of credit.
Students had the opportunity to analyze together with trainers from a bank of practical cases (case studies) - including:they practiced how to efficiently analyze the profit and loss account or the company's balance sheet.
During the classes, they learned negotiation strategies and tested themselves in practice during negotiation workshops prepared especially for them.
At classes on future competences, they learned about their own ways of cooperation and team building.
The advantage of the series of classes with practitioners is not only the practical approach and empirical use of issues taught during course classes as part of the study program, but also the wide participation of practitioners - almost every class is conducted with other experts in the field of banking.
In December, students' original projects will be prepared based on the knowledge from the lectures and workshops, which will then be evaluated during subsequent classes with practitioners.
The course will end with an open lecture on January 23, 2024 at 9.45-11.15 "From tradition to way of working, i.e. banking today", to which we cordially invite you today.
The coordinator of the classes on the part of the Faculty of Economics is Dr. Magdalena Markiewicz, and on the side of ING Bank, Ms. Agnieszka Strąk-Sowińska.
